CCPJ joins the nationwide call for an end to US funding of the Israeli attacks on Gaza
Submitted by CCPJ on Sat, 2009-01-10 18:05. Press ReleasesThe Charlottesville Center for Peace and Justice joins the nationwide call for an end to U.S. funding of the Israeli attacks on Gaza. These attacks have created a humanitarian catastrophe of dire proportions for Gaza's 1.5 million Palestinian residents by restricting the provision of food, fuel, medicine, electricity, and other necessities of life. We call on both sides to agree to an immediate ceasefire.
These attacks would not be possible without the jets, helicopters, ships, missiles, and fuel provided by the United States. From 2001-2006, the United States has transferred to Israel more than $300 million worth of spare parts to fly its fleet of F16's and Apache helicopters. A conservative estimate of total direct U.S. aid to Israel since 1949 is $114 billion. President-Elect Obama has already promised to give Israel $30 billion in military funding.
Forcibly denying civilians the basic necessities of life by such means is an act of war. Mainstream media in the US have lamentably failed to report and analyze what is being done with our government’s financial and tactic support, and thus in our name.
