Oops! we left out an important event in yesterdays weekly update.

It's the Cuba Caravan and it is happening tonight, Sunday July 11 at 7:00 PM, immediately following the CCPJ Annual Meeting at the Friends Meeting House.

The Caravan makes many stops in the US and Canada on its way to bringing humanitarian aid to the Cuban people in direct violation of US law and blockade/embargo of Cuba.

It is organized by Pastors for Peace and sponsored locally by the Charlottesville Center for Peace & Justice (CCPJ)

For further information or to make a donation please contact Mike Johnson at 984-7442.

A light supper of salad, bread, and dessert will be provided.

Please come out for either or both events.

WTJU Public "Town Hall" Input Session

Date: 7/12/2010 - 5:30pm
Location: Zehmer Hall 104 Midmont Lane (next to Thomas Aquinas Church)
Sponsor: UVA/Community for WTJU

Join UVA administrators and members of the UVA and Charlottesville community to discuss the future of WTJU 91.1 FM in a "town hall" setting.

WTJU is undergoing a drastic change, classical music programming may be eliminated, announcers will no longer have complete freedom to play what they think is important, and individual shows will be eliminated in favor of "block programming" with a Roots/Americana focus.

Announcers and community members are very much opposed to these changes, and hope to have a large and vocal turnout Monday, July 12 at Zehmer Hall.

To learn how you can get involved in saving announcer based programming at WTJU please e-mail spvirginia@comcast.net or call (434) 249-3312

"No Impact Man" (2009) film directed by Laura Gabbert and Justin Schein
Author Colin Beavan, in research for his next book, began the No Impact Project in November 2006. A newly self-proclaimed environmentalist who could no longer avoid pointing the finger at himself, Colin leaves behind his liberal complacency for a vow to make as little environmental impact as possible for one year. This film provides a front row seat into the familial strains and strengthened bonds that result from the struggle with this radical lifestyle change.
